Customer Reviews Sony Cybershot DSC-T500 10.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization

Very dissapointing. Video quality is poor and time between shots is very slow. I run a photography studio, so I know a little about cameras. Although, we do not use point and shoot cameras for our business we do use them day to day and on vacation because we hate carrying the big boys around. I have been a long time user of Canon cameras (both professional and point and shoot) and I have always been extremely pleased with them. However, my wife and I wanted a small camera that could take some high def video because we presumed that would give us better video quality. We also wanted a camera that you could optical zoom while recording video. When we bought this camera 4 months ago, there were not any Canon point and shoots with high def video so we bought this Sony. I have always been a big fan of Sony consumer electronics and recommend them to my friends all the time. However, I am very disappointed with the DSC-T500 for the following reasons: 1.) Though the video is "high def" the quality is almost always poorer than what we get out of our old Canon which takes standard def. Now, if you are taking a video outside with good lighting conditions, this camera does an awesome job and the high def quality is great to have. However, when inside or if lighting is not perfect than the video you receive is very poor because it is grainy and the coloring is always off. Everything looks very red when videoed inside. 2.) The picture quality is WAY below that of my Canons. The flash is always too strong and washes out anything within 6 feet of the camera. However, if the subject is more than 15 feet away the flash is too weak and cannot lighten them up at all. 3.) The camera is slower to take a picture than my Canons. Also, the refresh rate on the flash is miserably slow. If you take a picture with a flash you will definitely be waiting at least 3-5 seconds before it is ready to take another. When trying to photograph my children, that is an eternity. 4.) The battery life is abysmal. We had to take three batteries for this camera on our recent trip because it would always go through at least 2 every day. My Canons never did anything even remotely like this. You can literally watch the battery meter fall while recording a video. I haven't seen a digital camera go through batteries like this in over 7 years. I definitely would NOT recommend this camera to anyone. The only feature this camera fulfilled that we wanted is that it can optically zoom while recording and does a fine job with that. However, since the video recording is so poor this feature is basically worthless, too.
Worst Sony yet... Of all my 3 T-series cameras, this is by far the worst. First, the IQ is ok, better than the T30 but not as good as my Panasonic TZ5. The 720p video quality is however, awesome, almost as good as my VadoHD 720p pocket camcorder. The fatal flaw in the T500 is the HORRIBLE touch screen and the goofy menu structure. Believe me, you will hate this approach. Lo-res screen, fingerprints everywhere, dim in bright daylight, buttons that require many presses to register. Finally, did I mention the 20-minute battery life? I could not even review 125 images I had taken over the course of a week without draining a freshly-charged battery.
Amazing Camera if you are fine with its Limitations! I purchased this camera recently from Amazon as an alternative to the slow in coming Samsung HZ10W and have really been amazed by what it can do! About the size of a deck of cards, the Sony T-500's big selling point to me was the availability of stereo HD (720p) Video in MP4 format, something extremely scarce in any digital camera to date. This was my second attempt to get a compact HD shooter - the first was a Kodak Z1275 that seriously disappointed with its choppy video that was jumpy and would actually shift the entire picture to follow moving objects due to a lack of IS. Thus, I was quite skeptical of getting usable results from a camera that looked like a chic hipster tagalong. My skepticism has been silenced. The MP4 results are very stabilized, very clean, and play with pretty good fluidity on my somewhat under-powered box. When zooming in outdoor situations, it has never lost focus. Stereo separation is really pretty good, and overall sound quality is excellent. The compact size is very discreet and makes it a great option when you want to shoot video with a more candid feel. In short, it is amazing. Yes, this is a camera as well, and I've used it a bit in that regard as well, though not as much as the video feature. Overall, colors are very punchy (somewhat too punchy in the VIVID mode) and you may find the need to notch up the exposure by .3 to .6 stops (an available option) to keep from muting out shadow details. Other than EV compensation, there is no real manual exposure control when taking photos. There is a bracketing mode if you're shooting still lifes though. Once the novelty of the video feature wears off a bit, I'm sure I'll do more stills and report back. The camera has a whole lot going for it, but perfect it isn't. Read on for some of its limitations. First of all, keep in mind that this is ideally an outdoor camera, as it doesn't have the fastest lens. I have yet to attempt dusk or night shots or video, but certainly will in time. If you plan on taking the camera travelling or out for a day, you will almost certainly need to budget for at least one backup battery before buying this camera, as it likes to drink juice thanks in part to the huge 3.5" touchscreen on the back. You'll discover this is NOT the camera to pass around to show all your friends the last shot or clip you all took - if you do, you'll find yourself soon looking at a dead battery. This is probably the biggest shortcoming about the camera, but if you can be patient about reviewing your shots and conservative about having the camera on unneccessarily, you should be ok. It does go from off to ready VERY quickly, so this does help combat the need to keep it on at all times. The 5X zoom covers roughly a 38-190mm equivalent on a 35mm range, so it should be good for most settings, but some may wish for wider or longer options. Also, when stowing the camera in a waistcase, it's easy to mistakenly switch from video setting to camera setting, so this should probably be the first thing to check when taking the camera out. Overall, the camera feels sturdily constructed and with just decent TLC, should provide the purchaser with years of enjoyment. The form factor on this camera is really nice, and is only nicer when one considers that it has the function to match. Four out of Five Stars with the only drawbacks being battery life, and the general nuissance of the need to use propietary media and power supplies.

Manufacturer Description
Beauty is in the details, and this model captures them all. The DSC-H50 is a full-featured point-and-shoot with outstanding high-power zoom capability. It includes Smile Shutter technology which captures smile the moment they happen, as well as Face Detection technology to optimize focus, exposure and color for up to eight faces. Shoot detailed images with 9.1-megapixel resolution, and bring your subjects closer with the 15x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens. Intelligent Scene Recognition automatically selects your camera's settings based on detected lighting conditions, while Sony's Double Anti-Blur solution helps keep your images blur-free. The DSC-H50 completes the package with a 3.0-inch ClearPhoto LCD Plus display that lets you easily view your images and menu options. Cyber-shot DSC-H50 Highlights 9.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. Carl Zeiss 15x optical zoom lens 15x optical zoom provides a superb ability to bring long-distance subjects up close -- a significant advantage for situations where you can’t be near the action, such as sporting events or wildlife photography. 3.0-inch tilt-up Clear Photo LCD Plus Display The large, bright tiltable 3.0-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus display (230K pixels) tilts up for comfortable low-angle shooting, and an anti-reflective coating provides for excellent visibility to help you compose, view, and share photos with superb clarity and color reproduction, even in bright sunlight. Face Detection Face Detection technology automatically controls flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help reveal faces in shadows, make skin tones look more natural, reduce red-eye, and eliminates harsh facial glare.

Smile Shutter technology Smile Shutter technology captures smiles the moment they happen. The mode can be set to capture when your subject laughs, smiles or even grins, and like Face Detection is able to differentiate children and adults to set priority. Sony Double Anti-Blur Solution The combination of Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity helps compensate for shaky hands, minimizes blur, and allow flash-free shooting to preserve the mood. Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization compensates for shaky hands and minimizes blur with a built-in gyro that detects camera movement and sends correcting signals to a stabilization lens -- so there’s no need to crop in on your shot to reduce blur. High Sensitivity (ISO 3200) mode With high sensitivity of ISO 3200, you can shoot effectively in low light without flash to preserve the mood, while the Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction system helps suppress the color noise that can degrade low-light shots. Intelligent Scene Recognition mode Intelligent Scene Recognition mode automatically detects 5 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera setting: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, and Twilight using a Tripod. Intelligent Scene Recognition has two different modes, advanced and auto. Advanced mode takes one with the standard automatic settings and the other with optimized settings. Auto mode takes a single shot, utilizing the camera's optimal settings. Dynamic Range Optimization Standard & Plus Powered by the exclusive Sony BIONZ high-speed processing engine, Dynamic Range Optimization preserves image data in bright highlights and reveals more detail in shadows or backlit areas -- for great results even in difficult lighting conditions. New DRO Plus mode enhances optimization, analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing. NightShot Infrared System Sony’s NightShot Infrared System lets you shoot photos in near-dark or totally dark (0 lux) conditions without using a flash, so you can capture creative night scenes that lie beyond the power of conventional cameras. Variable Noise Reduction (NR Level Setting) To allow greater control over NR, three NR Level Settings are available -- High, Low and Standard -- allowing you to select the optimal setting depending on the scene and individual tastes. For example, applying high NR helps obtain smoothly textured images for portraits or dark scenes, while the low setting is helps reduce noise without sacrificing resolution, making it especially useful for landscapes, detailed subjects, and contoured surfaces. Advanced Sports Shooting mode Advance Sports Shooting mode is ideal for shooting fast-moving subjects. Just choose Advanced Sports Shooting mode with the mode dial. The camera will then automatically use Auto Focus to analyze subject motion and predict the next move while the shutter button is halfway pressed. A high shutter speed (up to 1/4000 sec.) helps ensure you capture the moment clearly even if the subject is moving at high speed. Bracket Shooting mode In addition to standard exposure bracketing, Bracket Shooting mode now includes settings for white balance and color modes. This function records three images with one shot, each with a different white balance or color mode applied, making it easy to capture the ambience and feeling of the original scene. Convenient Photo modes To adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, you can choose from several convenient photo modes, including Auto, Program Auto, and Scene Selections such as Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Portrait, Snow, High Sensitivity, Smile Shutter, Advance Sports Shooting, Fireworks, and Beach environments. MPEG Movie VX Fine mode Capture VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at a high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with the length of your video limited only by the capacity of your media. The maximum length of time you can shoot continuously is about 10 minutes. Plus, optical zoom is available during movie recording. High contrast and low chromatic aberration The ED lens used is manufactured from super low-dispersion glass, which drastically reduces chromatic aberration. This yields sharp, high contrast images and decreases color fringing, especially on the edges of images shot with telephoto lenses. Versatile long distance flash Versatile long distance flash is powerful enough to illuminate subjects up to 55 meters away (at wide angle and ISO 3200 settings). Additionally, an Auto Daylight Synchro provides effective fill-in flash illumination for backlit subjects. Automatic macro shooting Standard Auto Focus now covers the macro focus range, eliminating the need to manually change focus modes for close-up photography. 9-point auto focus Because an off-center subject can make your shot more interesting, a 9-point auto focus measures auto-focus at 9 precision points instead of 5 -- giving you greater creative freedom to compose your image. Smart Zoom feature The Sony Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo, helping avoid the image degradation of other digital zooms.

Burst mode You can fire off 100 shots automatically at .64-second intervals (at any resolution: VGA to full resolution mode) -- a great way to capture a child’s first steps or a pet’s best tricks. Color filter kit Five color filter effects -- including Red, Green, Blue, Warm, and Cool -- provide the same effects via in-camera image processing that are typically achieved with colored lens filters. Each effect provides increased creative control when shooting. Color Mode "Real" For users who want to retouch their images after shooting, Color Mode "Real" helps enable faithful color reproduction by minimizing in-camera image processing. The color modes available are Real, Normal, Vivid, Sepia, and Black & White. Wheel Dial for manual exposure modes For more creative freedom, a simple wheel-dial control lets you quickly change camera settings in manual modes (shutter speed priority, aperture priority, manual exposure) and also control ISO sensitivity, focus area, and exposure value. In play mode, the wheel dial provides a quick way to view your next or previous shot. Remote control function In both shooting and play mode, you can use a supplied remote control unit to control basic camera functions -- including zoom, menu settings, etc. -- so you can put yourself in the picture when shooting with a tripod or sit back and enjoy the show when you share images on your home TV screen. Easy Shooting mode A simplified camera environment especially attractive to beginners or digital camera users who want to keep things simple, Easy Shooting provides easy-to-read, on-screen instructions and limits the number of camera settings to help prevent misuse of the camera while still providing excellent results. Function guide This beginner-friendly function helps manage various functions and settings by displaying the description of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen. The Function Guide can also be switched off. Electronic color viewfinder In addition to the LCD screen, a built-in electronic color viewfinder lets you shoot in traditional camera style and save battery power by turning your LCD screen off. 15MB internal memory Even if you forget your flash memory card, you can get the shot because 15 MB7 internal memory lets you capture a limited number of shots with in-camera convenience, then easily transfer your shots to a PC or optional Memory Stick Duo media. Memory Stick Duo Media convenience A built-in slot accepts optional Memory Stick Duo media or Memory Stick PRO Duo media -- the compact, high-capacity storage media that make it easily to upload photos to your PC and are compatible with millions of devices worldwide. Stamina Battery Power Provides extended battery life and shooting capacity when using a fully charged Lithium Ion battery-- enough to cover a long weekend or a whole vacation.

Easy image management To help you find the right image among many, Date View and Favorites have been added to the standard Folder View. Date View displays a calendar view, while Favorites shows only user selected images. Furthermore, you can filter photos by face types such as portrait, child, baby, and smile. HDTV compatibility High-resolution images can be enjoyed in all their beauty simply by connecting the camera directly to a Sony BRAVIA HDTV or other compatible HDTV. This provides an excellent alternative to viewing photos as prints or on a computer monitor, and is ideal for users who want to share photos in the comfort of their living room. Optional HD solutions include a Cyber-shot cradle/charger with component cable output, or component cable directly to your HDTV. PhotoTV HD PhotoTV HD compatibility allows the camera to be connected to a PhotoTV HD-capable Sony BRAVIA HDTV via the optional HD output adaptor, for highly detailed, high-definition color images displayed in unprecedented realism and full-HD quality. 16:9 high-resolution mode In addition to the standard 2-megapixel size, the convenient 16:9 aspect ratio shooting mode for HDTV display can now be shot in 6-megapixel resolution, making it possible to obtain beautiful, high-definition prints with the same aspect ratio as HDTV. Wide Zoom Display To use the entire image area of compatible HDTV screens, Wide Zoom automatically expands standard 4:3 and 3:2 images to 16:9. PHOTOMUSIC Expanding the HD Slide Show with Music feature, PHOTOMUSIC combines images with music to produce fun and entertaining slide shows. The five standard visual effects (Simple, Basic, Nostalgic, Active and Stylish) have been supplemented with Face1: Basic, Face2: Nostalgic and Face3: Stylish for a total of eight effects. Additionally, the number of music tracks stored in the camera memory has been doubled from four to eight, and music playback time has been extended from three to five minutes per track. More personalized slide shows are also possible by transferring music from a PC to the camera. In-camera retouching Add creative effects to photos after you shoot using any of 10 retouching functions, including: Trimming, Red-Eye adjustment, Soft Focus filter, Unsharp Mask, Cross filter, Partial Color filter, Fish-eye filter, Retro, Radial Blur and Happy Face. The Happy Face effect uses photo retouching to put a smile on faces, with smile levels adjustable from 1 to 5. In-camera red-eye correction Irritating "glowing eyes" can ruin even the most creative photos, but in-camera red eye reduction corrects your photos at the touch of a button to reduce lingering red-eye effect that other systems might miss. Multi-resizing function Resize your photos in-camera for virtually any purpose! Any size picture images can be resized to widescreen 16:9 and 2 MP resolution for display on an HDTV. Conversely, high resolution, widescreen 16:9 images or any size picture can be resized to 4:3 size with VGA (640x480) resolution -- perfect for sharing with friends and family via e-mail (internet connection required). Picture Motion Browser Software Supplied software makes it easier to upload, organize, and search photos on your PC. When shooting photos using your camera and an optional GPS unit, the software even provides a convenient map view function that lets you sort photos by location and display their origin on a world map. Is what I expected to be, good camera Hi, I'm from Peru, South America. A friend of mine was coming to Peru, it cost me like half price to get this camera from the USA than bying it here... happens. About the camera, it is good, fast, several good functions, good battery life. It takes a little to get used to the several options, but it works nicely. This is what they call a "prosumer" product, for someone that wants some more than over the regular user. The only flaw I see here is the location of the zoom. If you hold the camera with one hand only, you will probably push the zoom without noticing. Is a matter to get used to it. I'm a fan from Sony products, none of them have ever dissapointed me. Now, if you are looking for something just to point and shot, maybe you shoudl try with the new slim ones with touchscreen, they are amazing. But if you want some more, like better lens, different speeds and ISO control, this is the one for starting with. I think my next two ones will be a digital SLR for working, and a slim touchscreen one for fun.
Sony dsch 50 with 15 zoom The first item that should be addressed is the fact that this is a Sony. Not a whole lot more should be said. The large tilting screen is a very nice bouns, particularly when shooting wild life, birds, and flowers. Sure you might get a little shake with the extended zoom, but then the stability issue is taken care of with another of the selling features of this camera. After all it is a digital camera you can take as many pictures as you want without wasting film, and you can instantly see what you have. My one thought is to buy a extra battery, with all the bells and whistles your're going to need one.
NO GO ON VIDEO I love the Sony H50 digital camera. I'm disabled and my hand shakes, yet with 15x telephoto and motion stabilization, i can take sharp pictures without the need for a tripod. BUT...you CANNOT make a video longer than 10 minutes. And that 10-minute time CANNOT be changed. Seems Sony has done this on its newer digital cameras to make you buy a cam corder if you want to do videos longer than 10 minutes. Sony's older digital point-and-shoot cameras can do videos longer than ten minutes.

Manufacturer Description
Take stunning shots in a variety of conditions. This 8.1-megapixel Cyber-shot digital camera features an Intelligent Scene mode which automatically selects the right settings for your environment. Smile Shutter technology is also included, letting you instantly capture smiles the moment they happen. A 2.7-inch LCD, Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens and Sony's Double Anti-Blur solution are also there for crisp, clear images and tight zooms. All this combined with an attractive body make the W150 an excellent choice for capturing the moment no matter where you are. Cyber-shot W150 Highlights 8.1-megapixel Super HAD CCDMore megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise. Carl Zeiss 5x Optical Zoom Lens5x optical zoom gives you the power to get even closer to the action -- a real benefit for distant landscape views and dramatic portraits. Wide-Angle LensWide-angle (30mm-150mm) lens captures more of the scene. 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD DisplayA large, bright 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD (230K) display includes an anti-reflective coating that provides for excellent visibility to help you compose, view, and share photos with superb clarity and color reproduction, even in bright sunlight. Face DetectionFace Detection technology automatically controls flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help reveal faces in shadows, make skin tones look more natural, reduce red-eye, and eliminates harsh facial glare. Smile Shutter ModeSmile Shutter technology captures smiles the moment they happen. The mode can be set to capture when your subject laughs, smiles or even grins, and like Face Detection Smile Shutter is able to differentiate between children and adults to set priority. Sony Double Anti-Blur SolutionThe combination of Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity helps compensate for shaky hands, minimizes blur, and allow flash-free shooting to preserve the mood. Super SteadyShot Optical Image StabilizationSuper SteadyShot Image Stabilization compensates for shaky hands and minimizes blur with a built-in gyro sensor that detects movement and sends correcting signals to a stabilization lens -- so there’s no need to crop in on your shot to reduce blur. High Sensitivity (ISO 3200) ModeWith high sensitivity of ISO 3200, you can shoot effectively in low light without flash to preserve the mood, while the Sony Clear RAW Noise Reduction system helps suppress the color noise that can degrade low-light shots. Intelligent Scene Recognition ModeIntelligent Scene Recognition mode automatically detects 5 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera setting: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a Tripod. Intelligent Scene Recognition has two different modes, advanced and auto. In Advanced mode, if the camera detects the particular scene, it will take one more picture. In Auto mode takes a single shot, arbitrarily deciding on the proper setting.

Dynamic Range Optimization Standard & PlusPowered by the exclusive Sony BIONZ high-speed processing engine, Dynamic Range Optimization preserves image data in bright highlights and reveals more detail in shadows or backlit areas -- for great results even in difficult lighting conditions. New DRO Plus mode enhances optimization, analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing. Convenient Photo ModesTo adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, you can choose from several convenient photo modes, including Auto, Program Auto, and Scene Selections such as Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Fireworks, Smile Shutter, Underwater, Landscape, Soft Snap, Snow, High Sensitivity, and Beach environments. MPEG Movie VX Fine ModeCapture VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at a high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second). The maximum length of time you can shoot continuously is about 10 minutes. Automatic Macro ShootingStandard Auto Focus now covers the macro focus range, eliminating the need to manually change focus modes for close-up photography. The Macro mode has not been eliminated, and enabling it accelerates Auto Focus when shooting at point-blank range. 9-Point Auto FocusBecause an off-center subject can make your shot more interesting, a 9-point auto focus measures auto-focus at 9 precision points instead of 5 -- giving you greater creative freedom to compose your image. Smart Zoom FeatureThe Sony Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo, helping avoid the image degradation of other digital zooms. Burst ModeBurst Mode You can fire off up to one hundred (100) shots at approx.0.62 second intervals (at any resolution: VGA to full resolution mode) -- a great way to capture a child’s first steps or a pet’s best tricks. Simple Setup ControlsA quick press of the Home button opens your user-friendly graphical interface -- and you can select functions by simply moving a cursor vertically or horizontally to the appropriate icon. Function names and the on-screen Function Guide display make it easier to learn camera setup operations. Easy Shooting ModeA simplified camera environment especially attractive to beginners or digital camera users who want to keep things simple, Easy Shooting provides easy-to-read, on-screen instructions and limits the number of camera settings to help prevent misuse of the camera while still providing excellent results. Function GuideThis beginner-friendly function helps manage various functions and settings by displaying the description of chosen functions or settings on the LCD screen. The Function Guide can also be switched off. Optical ViewfinderIn addition to the LCD display, a built-in optical viewfinder lets you compose your photos in traditional rangefinder camera style, and also helps save battery power by turning off your LCD display. 15MB Internal MemoryEven if you forget your flash memory card, you can get the shot because 15 MB internal memory lets you capture a limited number of shots with in-camera convenience, then easily transfer your shots to a PC or optional Memory Stick Duo media. Memory Stick Duo Media ConvenienceA built-in slot accepts optional Memory Stick Duo media or Memory Stick PRO Duo media -- the compact, high-capacity storage media that make it easily to upload photos to your PC and are compatible with millions of devices worldwide. Stamina Battery PowerProvides extended battery life and shooting capacity when using a fully charged Lithium Ion battery-- enough to cover a long weekend or a whole vacation. Date View Mode displays a calendar view, while Favorites Mode shows only user-selected images. Furthermore, you can filter photos by face types such as portrait, child, baby, and smile. HDTV CompatibilityHigh-resolution images can be enjoyed in all their beauty simply by connecting the camera directly to a Sony BRAVIA HDTV or other compatible HDTV. Wide Zoom DisplayTo use the entire image area of the compatible HDTV3 screens, Wide Zoom automatically expands standard 4:3 and 3:2 images to 16:9. Photo MusicExpanding the HD Slide Show with Music feature, PHOTOMUSIC combines images with music to produce fun and entertaining slide shows. Additionally, the number of music tracks stored in the camera memory has been doubled from four to eight, and music playback time has been extended from three to five minutes per track. More personalized slide shows are also possible by transferring music from a PC to the camera. In-Camera RetouchingAdd creative effects to photos after you shoot using any of 10 retouching functions, including: Trimming, Red-Eye Correction, Soft Focus filter, Unsharp Masking, Cross filter, Partial Color filter, Fish-eye filter, Retro, Radial Blur and Happy Face. The Happy Face effect uses photo retouching to put a smile on faces, with smile levels adjustable from 1 to 5. In-Camera Red-Eye CorrectionIrritating "glowing eyes" can ruin even the most creative photos, but in-camera red eye correction corrects your photos at the touch of a button to reduce lingering red-eye effect that other systems might miss. Customer Reviews Sony Cybershot DSCW150 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot (Silver)From Sony

sony camera review I really like this camera, it is simple to use and download to my pc. The images are clear and sharp. I was able to shoot in agym without a flash and got great pictures. My last camera would not take good pictures in a gym. I would highly reccommend this camera.
better than expected After reading reviews and ratings and specs for 2 weeks - I had narrowed it down to the Nikon coolpix 550 and this Sony. Even though the Nikon and Canon seem to be the best out there, I went with this because of some excellent reviews and a few extra features that are important to me with a point and shoot. No complaints - only drawback is you have to invest in the special Sony memory that only fits their cameras. graphic designer
Very nice camera, outstanding Customer Service I recently bought two DSC-W150 at Amazon and one DSC-W120 at another vendor. Since I decided to buy two ultra-compact cameras, it took me several weeks reading professional and customer reviews on the subject. When looking at the latter, I found that every reviewed camera, even the higher rated, had a few really awful reviews. That made it very difficult for me to make a decision. Then, I decided to give more consideration to the average rating and the "pros" reviews. I also took a pick at what many of my friends were carrying around. I handled - yet just for short periods of time - compact Cannon's, Pentax's, Nikon's and - of course - Sony's. I was attracted by the very nice built of the Sony's and the fact that they were the only ones among those that I touched that have an optical viewfinder. I read articles and heard people minimizing the importance of that feature all time, but I really find it a life saving when shooting under strong sun light or darkness . All the cameras I saw, made it very hard to frame scenes under those conditions and I naturally found my self taking pictures with the viewfinder. Also it was very useful in saving battery life. So, reviews, hands on and good built led me to choose the Sony cameras. After I actually bought them, I was very pleased with the results. The vast majority of pictures I took, under the most different situations, came out good. Colors were accurate and shooting speed very acceptable. Battery life is great, as well. If one is not expecting lots of manual controls and magazine grade pictures, he will be happy with those cameras. I gave the 150 to my wife and kept the 120 to myself. How about the other 150? Well, I think that is the highlight of the this review. People write all the time to complain about Customer Services, not just Sony's, but all of them. I am writing for the opposite reason. It so happened that when I bought the first 150 and took it outside for a test drive, I "managed" to give it a horrible fall. The kind of accident in which when you try to prevent the fall you end up trowing the object even farther, higher and causing a worse crash. So I dropped the new camera on a concrete floor, just 30 minutes after unpacking it. After I contained my anger I picked up the remains; the camera would still turn on, but it would shut off in few seconds. The lens, which were exposed during the fall, would not retract anymore. The first thing I did was to go back to my computer and order another W150. That was my wife's gift and was apologizing to her as I placed that second order. That done, what to do with the broken camera? After a few considerations between giving it away, or just throwing it in the garbage, I decided to send it to Sony and find out how much it would be to repair it, if at all possible. From the Sony repair site I got a work order number, printed a UPS label ($6 charge on my credit card) and next day I shipped the camera. I included a note telling the whole story, exactly as I am doing here. Then I followed up the process daily at Sony repair site; I saw when they received it, when it was being handled by a technician and... when they shipped it back to me!!!! The whole thing did not take ten days... and they did not charge me a penny for the repair!!!. And it had been all my fault. Finally, when the repaired camera arrived, I took a long session of photos with it and it is working perfectly as nicely as the second, brand new, I bought. Except for a few scratches in the body, it is as good as new. That is something I surely do not see everyday. Telling that story is the minimum I can do to thank Sony for their very nice attitude. Summarizing, I am very happy with the three cameras I bought. Clearly, this is not a technical review, I don't have a lab and I am not a professional photographer (I would not be buying point & shoot, if I was one). I am a normal guy who likes to go out taking pictures of everything I see, later review them on my computer screen and print a few that I want on paper. For that, the Sony's are doing a fine job. Even photos taken at higher ISO settings turned out very acceptable on a 6x4. I hope that helps in the tough decision you will have to make when picking up your next camera.
